engagement shoots

Engagement Photography - Why you should consider a pre-wedding photoshoot.

What is an engagement shoot?

An engagement shoot is exactly what it says on the tin! A photoshoot for you both to celebrate this super exciting period of time as a newly (or not so newly) engaged couple! They can be wherever or whatever you want them to be. Let yourselves be yourselves, no matter how goofy, & let your personalities show in your photographs! It gives you a chance to meet your photographer before your big day & really get a vibe for what it’s going to feel like being in front of the camera.

& why should I consider booking one before our wedding?

If the thought of being in front of a camera sharing loving gazes & smooches gives you the absolute fear then I’d definitely consider facing that fear head on! An engagement shoot gets rid of any nerves about the way I work & let’s you both see what it will be like to have me around as your professional, third-wheeling, terrible humoured photographer on your big day! I’m positive your nerves will soon fly out the window & you’ll be just as buzzing as I am to see each other again on your wedding day. You’ll leave feeling ready for your wedding & know that I’ve got your back. Your wedding will be captured beautifully & honestly without the fuddy-duddy poses!

Engagement shoots are fun, relaxed & about the both of you. We’ll take a walk, chat wedding & you’ll get to see that you don’t need to be posed to come away with amazing photographs. Just be yourselves & your unique quirks & the way you are with each other will shine through in the photo’s taken. I want your photo’s to feel like you.

They’re also a great chance to celebrate your engagement… it’s exciting & the time you spend as an engaged couple deserves to be celebrated as well! The locations are endless, I’ve been all over Scotland to some amazing places to meet my couples. Maybe there’s a spot that you’ve always loved going for walks, maybe the city centre is your cup of tea, maybe there’s a location that means a lot to your relationship or even the place you had your first date. Pick a time & a place & let’s go capture this amazing part of your journey together! If the endless choices of location leaves you drawing a blank, I’ve got plenty of recommendations as well whether you’re in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Fife, Dundee, Perth or anywhere else in Scotland.

I love getting to know my couples on a more personal level & I want you to get to know me as well. On an engagement shoot I never go straight into it. I like to take 10 minutes at the beginning to just chat, hear all about your day, see how your plans are coming along & just get to know each other better. I want to hear all about your vision for your wedding day & get just as excited as you both are!

If an engagement shoot sounds like something that would be right for you, please get in touch with me through my contact form here & let’s have some fun with it! If you fancy having a wee look through more of my work you can find that here!

An added bonus to having an engagement shoot is that, if you haven’t already sent them, you have amazing pictures of the two of you to personalise your save the dates or invitations!

Lauren & Valentino - Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh - The Caledonian Wedding

Lauren & Val tied the knot on a beautifully sunny Aprils day in the heart of Edinburgh City Centre.

The morning prep began in The Caledonian & with bride having seven bridesmaids & the groom having seven groomsmen it was definitely an early start to the day! I started off the day by having a bit of a blether with both parties & then by grabbing all the little details of the day (wedding dress, engagement ring, their daughters dress, flowers etc) & making my way to the stunningly lit hallway where me & Edinburgh Wedding Videos managed to get the dress to hang perfectly from the arches. The morning was full of laughs, nerves & panic about missing parts of outfits from the boys.

The ceremony was held at St Marys Catholic Cathedral where Val eagerly awaited Lauren whilst all the girls finished off hair & make-up. The lighting in the Cathedral was unbelievable as their daughter came down the aisle brandishing a “daddy here comes mummy” sign & Lauren made her way down the aisle looking absolutely stunning.

The newlyweds made their way to Princes Street Gardens for their couple shoot & as new parents it was important for them to include their little one in this part of their day as a new family of three. En route back to The Caledonian (while pushing the pram) I gave Val’s brother a call to let everyone know we were close so they could all come outside for a confetti surprise!

The reception room was breathtaking - everything looked perfect. Once the speeches came to an end all the guest sat down for dinner but when the singing waiters made an appearance everyone in the room was up on their feet having a blast!

The D-floor was packed all night with everyone celebrating the new married couple. The first dance was a tearjerker, Val became a part of the wedding band to sing a song for Lauren & there was even a massive Chinese take-away buffet (that I definitely got fired into) before heading home & letting the amazing couple party in to the wee hours.
